Saharanpur/Jalandhar: The death of former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa’s son, Akeel Akhtar, has taken a dramatic turn. Amid explosive allegations made by Akeel in a video before his death, the former top cop has broken his silence — calling his son “mentally unstable” and the entire controversy a political conspiracy to tarnish his image.

Speaking to media at his ancestral village Hardakhedi in Chilkana, Mustafa rejected every allegation levelled by his son, saying, “My son was mentally ill and had been struggling with drug addiction and psychological issues for 18 years. Those using his condition to defame me are part of a well-planned conspiracy — but they will not succeed.”
Mustafa said Akeel had been expelled from college several times and had even assaulted his wife in the past. “He once set our house on fire while drunk, injuring those who tried to save him,” the former DGP said, adding that Akeel had made “false and baseless videos” under the influence of alcohol.
“He was a psychopath under treatment. My family is being dragged into a conspiracy for political revenge. I have always fought against the enemies of the nation, and I will fight this battle too,” Mustafa asserted.
The former DGP further stated that Akeel had later recorded another video, retracting his earlier accusations.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Police has constituted an SIT (Special Investigation Team) to probe the matter. Mustafa said he had full faith that the investigation would “expose the real conspirators.”
It may be recalled that Akeel Akhtar was found dead at his home in Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula, on October 17. Before his death, Akeel released a video accusing his father of having an illicit relationship with his wife. Following this, a murder FIR was registered against Mohammad Mustafa, his wife, daughter, and daughter-in-law in Malerkotla, Punjab.

The case has sparked a storm in political and police circles across Punjab and Haryana, with questions now swirling around whether this was a tragic family breakdown or part of a larger vendetta against the former DGP.
