Fake Obscene Video of CM Bhagwant Mann Goes Viral: Mohali Cyber Crime Registers FIR Against Jagman Samra, IP Tracking Begins

Chandigarh/Mohali:
A massive controversy has erupted after an obscene fake video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann went viral on social media. The State Cyber Crime Police, Mohali, has registered an FIR against Jagman Samra, whose social media accounts allegedly uploaded the AI-generated video aimed at defaming the Chief Minister.

According to cyber officials, the video was deliberately fabricated using artificial intelligence tools and uploaded from Samra’s two verified accounts. One of the posts, uploaded about 15 hours ago, described the video as atrailer and provocatively announced a $1 million reward for anyone who could prove it was AI-generated.

The cybercrime team confirmed that Samra’s accounts — with over 35,000 followers — have been active for years, and multiple posts related to the video were made from them. In a follow-up post just five hours ago, Samra repeated his challenge, this time offering ₹5 crore to anyone who could prove the clip was fake, while claiming he had released another such video on New Year’s Day.

Given the sensitive nature of the content and the high-profile target, cybercrime authorities swung into action immediately. The IP address and digital footprint linked to the uploads are now under forensic scrutiny.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 340, 353(1), 353(2), 351(2), and 336(4) of the IPC, along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The case was filed based on the statement of Inspector Gaganpreet Singh of the State Cyber Crime unit.

Officials confirmed that the video was explicitly designed to malign CM Mann’s image using deepfake technology, marking one of the most serious AI-misuse cases in Punjab’s political history.

A senior cybercrime officer stated, “This is not just defamation — it’s digital sabotage aimed at destabilizing public trust. We’re tracking every trace of this upload, including the original device and IP location.”

As the probe deepens, experts warn that AI-generated political misinformation could become an increasing threat ahead of upcoming elections — a challenge that law enforcement agencies across India must be prepared to confront.
