Hoshiarpur, October 23:
Two accused involved in the October 18 firing incident at a goldsmith’s shop in Mahilpur town were arrested by the Hoshiarpur police after an encounter in Gajjar Maidood village. One of the accused, identified as Keshav, sustained a gunshot wound in his leg during the exchange of fire.

According to police, the duo—Keshav and his father—were wanted in multiple criminal cases. Acting on a tip-off, police traced them while they were moving on a motorcycle near Gajjar Maidood. Upon being chased, they abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby forest, where they opened fire on the police. In retaliatory fire, one accused was injured and subsequently arrested.
Police recovered a revolver and cartridges from the spot. The injured accused has been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Hoshiarpur.

Hoshiarpur SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik confirmed the arrests, calling it a “major breakthrough.” He said the accused will be interrogated to determine the motive behind the Mahilpur firing and the source of their weapon supply.
