BALLARI — Law enforcement authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 11 individuals, including BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy, following a deadly clash that erupted in Ballari, Karnataka on Thursday. The violence, which claimed one life and left multiple people injured, stemmed from a heated dispute over the placement of promotional banners ahead of a statue unveiling ceremony.

The confrontation began in the Avambhavi area when supporters of Congress MLA Bharat Reddy began placing posters and banners promoting a statue unveiling ceremony of Valmiki Ji, scheduled for January 3rd. The materials were being affixed outside the residence of BJP MLA Janardhan Reddy, triggering immediate objections from his supporters.
What started as a heated argument quickly descended into violence. Stone-pelting erupted from both groups as the situation spiralled out of control. Police arriving at the scene to restore order were also targeted by stones, forcing them to use lathi-charges and fire warning shots into the air to disperse the hostile crowds.
Security Crackdown
Following the violence, authorities have substantially increased security presence throughout Ballari. Heavy police contingents have been deployed across the district to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order. Senior police officials have been closely monitoring the situation to ensure communal peace.
“The situation is currently under control, and additional security forces have been deployed,” a senior police officer stated. “The situation is peaceful, and all precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that no untoward incident occurs.”

The police investigation remains active as officers work to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the violence. The FIR, naming both Congress and BJP supporters, reflects authorities’ determination to pursue action against perpetrators regardless of political affiliation.
