BOOTHGARH, KHANNA – A quiet village in Khanna has been rocked by the tragic deaths of a newlywed couple, Gurkaramdeep Singh (31) and his wife, Jasmine Nagra (23), who died following a suspected case of extortion and mental harassment.
The couple, who had entered into a love marriage only four months ago, were found to have consumed a poisonous substance, leading to their untimely demise while undergoing treatment.

The Sequence of Events
According to family members, the tragedy unfolded as a devastating chain reaction. Gurkaramdeep Singh reportedly consumed a poisonous substance first. Upon witnessing her husband in a critical state, his wife, Jasmine Nagra, fell into severe shock and consumed the same substance. Despite efforts to save them, both succumbed to the poison shortly after.
Allegations of Blackmail and Harassment
The incident has triggered a criminal investigation following a formal complaint lodged by the mother of the deceased, Sinderpal Kaur.
In her statement to the police, Sinderpal Kaur alleged that a fellow villager, Navjot Kaur (alias Deep)—a relative described as a sister-in-law—is responsible for driving the couple to this extreme step. The mother claims that Navjot Kaur, who had a prior friendship with Gurkaramdeep, began systematically blackmailing him following his marriage. The accused allegedly demanded money and subjected the victim to persistent mental harassment, creating a level of pressure that ultimately proved unbearable.

Police Investigation Underway
Acting on the complaint, the Sadar Police in Khanna have officially registered a case of abetment to suicide against Navjot Kaur.
Speaking on the progress of the case, ASI Charanjit Singh stated that a specialized team has been dispatched to apprehend the accused. “We are currently conducting a search for the accused. Further legal action and the direction of the investigation will be determined by the findings of the post-mortem report and gathered evidence,” he noted.
The village of Boothgarh remains in a state of mourning as the community awaits further developments in this distressing case.
