Navjot Kaur Sidhu Breaks Silence After Congress Suspension, Launches Fresh Attack on Party Leadership

Suspended Congress leader makes strong comeback after Rs 500 crore controversy, accuses Punjab Congress president of corruption

Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former cricketer and former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, appeared before the media for the first time since her suspension from the Congress party, reiterating her uncompromising stance against the party’s current leadership.

Speaking to journalists at her residence in Patiala, Kaur launched a scathing verbal attack on Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, declaring that she will not compromise with what she calls corrupt leadership within the party.

The Controversy That Led to Suspension

The political uproar began when Kaur made a controversial statement regarding a Rs 500 crore briefcase, claiming that “one who gives a suitcase of Rs 500 crore becomes the chief minister.” Her remarks, made while responding to questions about her husband’s potential return to active politics, triggered immediate backlash from Congress leadership.

Following the statement, the Congress party suspended Kaur, citing her unsubstantiated claims and damaging remarks against the party’s image.

Defiant Response to Suspension

Rather than backing down, Kaur doubled down on her criticism of party leadership. “Those who used to touch my feet have now stabbed me in the back,” she told the media, referring to senior Congress leaders who she believes have betrayed her trust.

Kaur accused Punjab Congress President Warring of lacking legitimacy and claimed that his actions were motivated by personal vendetta rather than party interests. She alleged that Warring himself has been issued multiple notices in the past, and compared her suspension to similar actions against other party leaders like Rana Gurjeet Singh.

Allegations Against Senior Leaders

The suspended leader didn’t spare senior Congress figure Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, accusing him of colluding with gangsters and engaging in corrupt practices. Her accusations mark a significant escalation in the internal conflict within Punjab Congress.

Despite the serious nature of her allegations, Kaur stated that she and her husband remain ready for any investigation into the matters they have raised. She also brought up concerns regarding land encroachments in the Shivalik Hills, which she raised with the state’s Governor.

Claims of Party Support

Kaur asserted that her suspension does not represent the true sentiment within Congress. According to her claims, approximately 90 percent of national Congress leadership and 70 percent of Punjab Congress leaders support her husband’s potential return to active politics and share concerns about the current direction of the party.

She clarified her position, stating emphatically that she will not support those she characterizes as “thieves” and warned that certain individuals are attempting to destroy the entire Punjab Congress structure.

Legal Notice Escalation

The political feud took another turn when Congress MP Sukhjinder Randhawa served a legal notice on Kaur, demanding an apology for allegedly defamatory remarks made against him. Randhawa warned of legal action if Kaur fails to retract her statements, further intensifying the party’s internal conflict.

Behind-the-Scenes Negotiations

Despite her public defiance, Kaur revealed that behind-the-scenes discussions are ongoing with the Congress high command in Delhi. These talks suggest that there may be room for reconciliation, though her current public posture offers little indication of compromise.

The situation reflects deepening fissures within Punjab Congress, with the Sidhu faction directly challenging the authority and legitimacy of the current party leadership. As the controversy continues to unfold, questions remain about the long-term implications for Congress unity in Punjab and the party’s political prospects in the state.
