Violence erupts in Aman Nagar as neighbour opens fire over vehicle obstruction, raising fresh concerns about law and order
Jalandhar — A routine neighborhood dispute over car parking spiralled into gun violence on Saturday night when a man was shot and hospitalized following an altercation with his neighbour in the Aman Nagar area of Jalandhar. The incident has reignited concerns about rising violent crime in the city, particularly over trivial matters.

The shooting occurred when a young woman visiting her mother’s house found herself caught in an escalating conflict between her son-in-law and a neighbour identified as Prince. According to eyewitness accounts, the altercation began when the son-in-law parked his Innova vehicle in a manner that partially obstructed the street, blocking passage for other residents.
When the neighbour approached to request that the vehicle be moved, the son-in-law allegedly refused to comply. What followed was a swift and violent escalation. The neighbour reportedly retrieved a weapon from his own vehicle, first vandalizing the parked Innova in an act of rage, and then opened fire. The victim collapsed at the scene and immediately lost consciousness.
Emergency responders rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition remains under observation as doctors work to stabilize his injuries.
Growing Concerns About Law and Order
The incident has sent shockwaves through the neighborhood and raised alarming questions about public safety in Jalandhar. The timing adds to existing anxieties—just 24 hours earlier, the nephew of former MLA Sheetal Angural was murdered in the Jalandhar West area, marking another violent incident in the city within days.
Residents of Aman Nagar reported that the sudden sound of gunfire created panic throughout the locality. Several neighbours witnessed the shooting, and the immediate aftermath left many shaken by how quickly an ordinary disagreement transformed into a life-threatening confrontation.
Police Investigation Underway
Jalandhar Police have arrived at the scene and initiated a formal investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to establish a complete timeline of events, identify the exact circumstances that triggered the escalation, and locate the accused shooter, who has not yet been apprehended.
The investigation is focusing on gathering statements from eyewitnesses, including the family members present at the time of the incident, and examining whether the accused has a history of violent behaviour or criminal involvement.

A Pattern of Trivial Disputes Turning Violent
This incident exemplifies a concerning trend in Punjab, where minor neighborhood conflicts have repeatedly escalated into serious violence. The fact that a parking obstruction—a common occurrence in residential areas—resulted in gunfire underscores deeper issues regarding conflict resolution, easy access to weapons, and the adequacy of deterrence against violent crime.
Police authorities are urging residents to report suspicious activities and to reach out to law enforcement before disputes escalate. Community leaders have also called for increased police presence in residential neighbourhoods to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, the victim’s family anxiously awaits updates on his recovery, while the broader Jalandhar community grapples with questions about safety and security in their own neighbourhoods.
