MEERUT/PRAYAGRAJ – In a move set to redefine the logistics and travel landscape of Northern India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the 594-km Ganga Expressway tomorrow, Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Built at a staggering cost of ₹36,230 crore, the greenfield project is now the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh. It aims to bridge the gap between the western and eastern corners of the state, slashing the travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from a gruelling 12 hours to a mere 6 to 7 hours.

A Corridor of Connectivity
The expressway is more than just a road; it is a strategic artery connecting 12 districts and 519 villages. Starting from Bijauli village in Meerut, it traverses through Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, and Pratapgarh, before terminating at Judapur Dandu in Prayagraj.
Technical Excellence and Strategic Assets
Engineered for a top speed of 120 km/hr, the expressway currently features six lanes, with the foundation already laid to expand to eight lanes as traffic demands grow.
-
IAF Airstrip: Highlighting its strategic importance, a 3.5-km-long emergency airstrip has been constructed in Shahjahanpur, allowing Indian Air Force fighter jets to land and take off during national emergencies.
-
Engineering Feats: The route boasts massive infrastructure, including:
-
A 1-km-long bridge over the Ganga River at Brijghat.
-
A 720-meter bridge over the Ramganga River.
-
A total of 14 major bridges, 126 minor bridges, and nearly 1,000 culverts.
-
The Grand Inauguration
While the Prime Minister will lead the main ceremony in Hardoi, the state government has organized a simultaneous “Mega-Event” at the starting point in Meerut.
“Preparations are in full swing at the Bijoli toll plaza. We have set up LED screens and seating for 5,000 residents to witness the Prime Minister dedicate this marvel to the nation live,” stated a senior district official.

Future Outlook: Jewar and Haridwar
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has already confirmed phase-two expansion plans. The expressway will soon be linked to the Noida International Airport at Jewar via a new 83-km link road and will eventually extend northwards to Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Economic Impact
Experts predict the expressway will trigger an industrial boom in Central UP. By providing high-speed access to the Delhi-NCR region, local industries—from the brass works of Amroha to the agricultural hubs of Pratapgarh—are expected to see a significant spike in export potential and economic growth.
As the sun rises tomorrow, the wheels of development in Uttar Pradesh are officially set to move into the fast lane.
