Major Crackdown: Punjab Police Arrest Four Gangsters Following Border Encounter

TARN TARAN – In a high-stakes joint operation, the Punjab Police dealt a significant blow to organized crime networks operating from abroad. Following a brief but intense encounter in the border village of Dal, the CIA teams of Tarn Taran and Gurdaspur arrested four wanted criminals linked to notorious overseas-based gangsters.

The operation has reportedly foiled a conspiracy involving multiple targeted killings and high-profile extortions across the state.

The Intelligence & The Chase

The operation was initiated following specific intelligence received by SSP Surinder Lamba. Reports suggested that “hitmen” acting on the orders of gangsters Gurlal Brar and Gurdev Jassal—who are believed to be operating from foreign soil—were moving through the border districts to execute a fresh wave of crime.

Acting on this input, CIA teams intensified patrolling in the village of Dal. During the operation, officers signalled four youths riding on two motorcycles to stop for questioning. Instead of complying, the suspects attempted a desperate escape.

The Encounter & Retaliation

The pursuit quickly escalated. One of the motorcycles skidded while navigating the rural terrain, allowing the police to apprehend two suspects immediately.

However, the occupants of the second motorcycle opened fire on the police party to cover their escape. In the ensuing retaliatory fire, the police targeted the suspects’ legs to incapacitate them. Both shooters were neutralized and taken into custody shortly after.

Suspects Identified

The police have officially identified the four arrested individuals:

  • Tejinder Pal Singh (alias Channi): Injured in the shootout.

  • Swaraj Singh (alias Abhi): Injured in the shootout.

  • Gurman Singh: Resident of Panjgranian, Batala.

  • Jashandeep Singh: Resident of Emma Kalan, Tarn Taran.

Medical teams provided immediate treatment to the injured suspects, who remain under heavy police guard.

A Trail of Crime & Planned Hits

The preliminary investigation has linked the quartet to a string of violent incidents across Tarn Taran, Batala, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur.

Criminal Record: The gang was recently involved in a murder in Tanda and a daylight firing incident at a shop in Kalanaur, carried out to intimidate a local businessman for ransom.

Most significantly, interrogation revealed that the group was actively planning two targeted killings in Tarn Taran. While the identities of the potential targets remain classified for security reasons, the police confirmed that the arrests have prevented immediate bloodshed in the region.

Ongoing Investigation

Two pistols and ammunition were recovered from the scene. A fresh case has been registered against the four accused under the Arms Act and sections pertaining to attempted murder.

“The interrogation is ongoing, and we expect more significant revelations regarding their logistics and local support network,” stated SSP Surinder Lamba. “This operation sends a clear message that those acting on the behest of anti-social elements sitting abroad will face the full force of the law.”
