⚠️ ULTIMATUM TO PGI CHANDIGARH: PAY CRORES OR FACE STRICT ACTION!

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has cracked down on PGI Chandigarh, slamming the premier medical institute for massive unpaid dues and serious fire safety lapses. PGI has been given a final ultimatum of two months — pay crores in pending property tax and water bills, fix fire safety violations, and ensure proper biomedical waste disposal, or the civic body will initiate strict penal action.

During a tense meeting at the MC headquarters, officials expressed strong displeasure over PGI’s negligence. Fire Department authorities revealed shocking lapses — several hospital buildings still lack proper fire-fighting systems, alarms, and clearance certificates. Officials warned that the situation poses a major safety threat to patients and staff.

PGI representatives tried to defend themselves, stating that a fire safety audit by CBRI Roorkee is in progress and 16 buildings have already been inspected. They promised to complete all safety compliances within two months.

However, Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar was in no mood for excuses. He ordered PGI to immediately clear crores in outstanding property tax and water dues, and strictly comply with all solid waste and biomedical waste management norms. He made it clear that failure to comply will invite tough action under municipal laws.

The meeting was attended by Colonel G.S. Bhatti (Superintending Engineer, PGI), senior doctors, and top MC officials. The corporation has also demanded a written progress report on fire safety and waste disposal work every fortnight.

With mounting dues, fire hazards, and civic violations, the message from the Municipal Corporation is loud and clear —
“No special treatment for PGI. Pay up and clean up — or face the consequences!”
