Many areas of North India including Delhi-NCR trembled due to the earthquake in the capital Delhi on Monday morning. There is no news of any damage in this earthquake yet, but many people say that the tremors were so strong that it became one of the most terrifying experiences of their lives. During the earthquake, a loud thunder was also heard inside the ground, which spread panic among the people. However, now experts have told why this sound was heard.
This is the reason for the loud thunder sound
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), during an earthquake, the ground vibrates, producing short-duration seismic wave motion that reaches the air and becomes a sound wave. These sound waves can cause vibrations in the atmosphere. According to the US Geological Survey, the shallower or lesser the epicenter of the earthquake, the more energy can reach the surface. High frequency seismic waves pass through the ground, due to which the sound of thunder is heard during an earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake in Delhi was just five kilometers inside the ground, due to which people heard a loud sound.
The epicenter of the earthquake was near Dhaula Kuan in Delhi
