Tension flared due to arrest of Arambai Tenggol leader

The arrest of Meitei organization Arambai Tenggol leader Kanan Singh is believed to be the reason for the tension flaring up again in Manipur. According to PTI, people took to the streets after the arrest of the organization’s leader. Protesters burnt tires and old furniture on the roads in Kwakethel and Uripok. They demanded the release of the Meitei leader. On Saturday night also, they clashed with security forces at different places in Imphal. The mob also set a bus on fire in Khurai Lamlong. Imphal airport gate surrounded, firing

Several rounds of firing took place in Kwakethel. Apart from this, protesters also surrounded the gate of Imphal airport in Tulihal. They took to the streets along the airport and blocked the main road to protest against the attempt to take the arrested leader out of the state. Apart from this, the members of the organization poured petrol on themselves in symbolic protest.

Security forces fired tear gas shells, imposed restrictions

To disperse the protesters, the security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells in front of Kangla Gate, about 200 meters away from the Raj Bhavan. Apart from this, security was increased by additional deployment of central forces on the roads leading to the Raj Bhavan. At the same time, prohibitory orders were imposed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching districts. Internet services were also suspended for five days from 11.45 pm on Saturday in five districts of the valley. In Imphal East and Bishnupur districts, people were banned from leaving their homes from 10 pm on Saturday.

The commissioner issued the order

After the tension spread, Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N Ashok Kumar issued the order. It said that in view of the prevailing law and order situation in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts, it is feared that some anti-social elements may use social media extensively to broadcast pictures, hate speech and hateful video messages inciting public sentiment. This may have a serious impact on the law and order situation in the state. If a person is found guilty of violating the said order, legal action will be taken against him. However, which leader of the Arambai Tenggol organization has been arrested. It has not been disclosed.

What is Arambai Tenggol group?

According to sources, Arambai Tenggol started as a cultural organization in 2020, but soon it turned into a radical organization.
