Mumbai:
The political battlefield in Maharashtra has ignited. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has set off a political storm, claiming that a shocking 9.6 million fake voters have been inserted into the state’s voter list.

Thackeray has accused the Election Commission of “betraying democracy” and demanded that no elections be held until the voter list is cleaned and audited. His fiery statement has thrown the political establishment into chaos — with opposition parties rallying behind him and vowing a statewide agitation.
“We have credible information that nearly one crore fake voters have been added. This is not just manipulation — it’s fraud against every honest voter of Maharashtra. Until the list is verified, no election should take place,” Thackeray thundered while addressing party workers on Sunday.
He has instructed MNS workers to launch a door-to-door verification drive, declaring that the people of Maharashtra will not tolerate “electoral corruption under the guise of democracy.”
Opposition Fires Back — “Election Commission Has Sold Its Conscience”
Thackeray’s explosive claims have sent shockwaves through political circles. Leaders from the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress have rallied in support, accusing the ruling establishment of manipulating voter data to fix elections in advance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut launched a blistering attack on the Election Commission, saying,
“Every election now feels like match-fixing. The BJP is winning not by votes but by voter manipulation. The Election Commission has become a silent spectator.”
Raut confirmed that Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, and Raj Thackeray will jointly meet Election Commission officials in Delhi to demand accountability. He also announced a massive protest march on November 1 in Mumbai, where all opposition leaders will “march to save democracy.”
Shinde Camp Hits Back
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reacting to the storm, dismissed the allegations as “political drama.”
“These are baseless allegations. The Mahayuti alliance doesn’t fear elections — we work round the clock and will win with a clear majority,” Shinde said.
But political observers believe the damage has already been done — the voter list controversy has now become a full-blown election issue that could corner the ruling alliance ahead of the civic polls.
Rahul Gandhi’s Old Warning Returns
Adding fuel to the fire, Rahul Gandhi’s old claim that the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections were rigged has resurfaced online. Gandhi had earlier alleged that “more voters were added in five months than in the last five years combined,” a statement now finding new traction amid the ongoing voter list uproar.
November 1: Showdown in Mumbai
With the opposition gearing up for a mega protest march in Mumbai on November 1, the stage is set for a political showdown unlike anything seen in recent years.
The question now shaking Maharashtra’s political circles —
Has the voter list really been hacked, or is this a new weapon in the war for 2025?
