JAMMU, INDIA — A standard anti-narcotics operation turned into a violent confrontation in Pasgal village, Arnia, as a police team was forced to retreat under a barrage of stone-pelting. The chaos allowed two notorious drug traffickers, currently on the police’s “hit list,” to evade capture.

The Ambush at Pasgal
Late yesterday, a police contingent led by Station House Officer (SHO) Dilawar Kumar moved into the Kullas (settlements) of Pasgal following credible intelligence that high-level traffickers had returned to the area.
The operation was met with immediate and organized resistance. As officers closed in on their targets, a large crowd from a specific community gathered and began pelting the team with stones. Reports indicate that the intensity of the attack left the officers with no choice but to flee the spot to save their lives, effectively stalling the raid.
“Hit List” Fugitives at Large
The primary targets of the raid were identified as Billa Gurjar and Sudam Hussain. Both men are known henchmen of Lahu Gurjar, a major figure in the regional drug trade who has long been a priority target for Jammu and Kashmir law enforcement.
Exploiting the distraction created by the mob, both Billa and Sudam managed to slip away into the surrounding terrain.
Police Response and Manhunt
Speaking on the incident, SHO Dilawar Kumar emphasized that the safety of the personnel was the deciding factor in the tactical retreat.
“The raid was based on firm intelligence regarding drug trafficking activities. However, the assembly of a massive crowd and the subsequent stone-pelting created a life-threatening situation. We have identified the primary instigators and are proceeding with legal action against those who obstructed justice.”

Aftermath
The Jammu police have since intensified their presence in the Arnia sector. A massive manhunt is currently underway to track down the absconding traffickers. Additionally, authorities are in the process of identifying individuals involved in the stone-pelting, asserting that those harbouring criminals or attacking law enforcement will face stringent legal consequences.
