Midnight Raid at Kanpur Nightclub: Narcotics Seized, IIT Students Detained in NRI City Rave

KANPUR In a massive midnight crackdown on the city’s burgeoning drug culture, the Nawabganj Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) busted a high-profile rave party at the ‘Stella Naomi’ nightclub in NRI City late Friday night. The raid resulted in the arrest of the primary organizer and a drug supplier, while 144 attendees—including students from IIT Kanpur and CSJMU—were detained and later released after a stern reprimand.

The Operation: Chaos at 2:30 AM

Acting on precise intelligence regarding large-scale narcotics consumption, a joint task force led by ADCP (SOG) Sumit Sudhakar Ramteke and Nawabganj Inspector Rajkesar stormed the venue at approximately 2:30 AM.

The arrival of the police triggered a wave of panic. Youths from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and various parts of Uttar Pradesh were found in a state of heavy intoxication. Police have officially arrested:

  • Fardeen (Organizer): A resident of Jajmau responsible for coordinating the event.

  • Mohit Jaiswal (Supplier): A resident of Gumti Number 5, accused of providing the illegal substances.

Instagram Invitations and Entry Fees

Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal revealed that the party was meticulously planned via social media. Invitations were circulated exclusively through Instagram, with an entry fee set at ₹1,000 per head. This digital trail is currently being analysed to identify other potential links in the supply chain.

Seizure of Contraband

Authorities recovered a “cocktail” of synthetic and organic drugs during the search of the premises:

Narcotic/Item Quantity Recovered
LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) 0.15 Grams
Cocaine 1.19 Grams
Ganja (Marijuana) 23.47 Grams
Charas (Hashish) 5.49 Grams
Hashish Oil 0.60 Grams
Cash ₹49,000
Paraphernalia 5 crushers, rolling papers, smoking filters

Sensory Manipulation: The “Trance” Effect

The investigation unearthed a sophisticated attempt to enhance the drug experience through environmental triggers. ADCP Ramteke explained that the club had installed high-end projectors displaying “special screensavers.”

“These visuals functioned as optical illusions, designed to induce a trance-like state. Prolonged exposure to these screens compels the viewer to sway involuntarily, mimicking and amplifying the effects of the narcotics,” the ADCP stated.

Educational Institutions Notified

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the academic community, the police confirmed the presence of students from prestigious institutions, including IIT Kanpur and Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU).

Commissioner Lal expressed disappointment, noting that the police had recently conducted anti-drug awareness workshops at these very campuses. While the students were permitted to leave after questioning, their respective institutions have been formally notified of their involvement for further disciplinary action.

Next Steps

The police are now interrogating the hotel and nightclub operators to determine if they provided the venue with the full knowledge of the illegal activities. Further arrests are expected as the SOG tracks the digital footprints of the drug distribution network.
