LG Manoj Sinha Chairs High-Level Security Review Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2026 and Darbar Move

JAMMU – In a critical assessment of the Union Territory’s security landscape, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha presided over a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to streamline preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2026. The meeting comes at a pivotal administrative juncture as Jammu and Kashmir prepares for the biannual ‘Darbar Move,’ with the Civil Secretariat scheduled to transition from Jammu to Srinagar next week.

Comprehensive Security Grid for the Yatra

With the Amarnath Yatra set to draw hundreds of thousands of devotees, LG Sinha emphasized a “zero-error” security policy. Senior officials from the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police (JKP), and various central intelligence agencies briefed the LG on the current threat assessment and the deployment of a multi-tiered security umbrella.

Key Security Directives Included:

  • Enhanced Coordination: Strengthening the synergy between the CAPF and local police to ensure seamless communication across the twin routes of Baltal and Pahalgam.

  • Vigilance & Surveillance: Heightened monitoring of transit camps and the integration of advanced technology, including RFID tracking for every pilgrim and drone surveillance along the mountainous tracks.

  • Infrastructure Deadlines: The LG issued a strict directive for all civil and security infrastructure at the base camps to be completed and vetted by June 10.

The ‘Darbar Move’ Transition

The timing of the meeting is significant as the UT administration prepares for its seasonal shift. The Civil Secretariat is slated to close in Jammu on April 30 and officially reopen in Srinagar on May 4. LG Sinha instructed departments to ensure that the administrative transition does not cause any lag in the ongoing preparations for the pilgrimage or public service delivery.

Crackdown on Narcotics: ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’

Parallel to security concerns, the LG took stock of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan (Drug-Free J&K Campaign). Expressing a hardliner stance against the “narco-terror” nexus, the administration is set to intensify its crackdown.

“We must not only spread awareness but also take exemplary punitive action against those fuelling the drug trade,” the LG stated.

Reports suggest the administration is considering stringent measures, including the cancellation of official documentation for repeat offenders, to dismantle the supply chain within the region.

Essential Information for Pilgrims

The 57-day pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on July 3, 2026, and conclude on August 28, 2026.

  • Registration: Currently open via official SASB channels.

  • Health Mandate: Only Compulsory Health Certificates (CHC) issued by authorized clinicians after April 8, 2026, will be accepted.

  • Logistics: Devotees are advised to stay updated on weather advisories and ensure they carry their mandatory RFID cards at all times during the trek.

The administration remains on high alert to ensure that both the Darbar Move and the subsequent Yatra proceed with the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
