LUCKNOW – The historic inauguration of the 594-km Ganga Expressway by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 29 has been overshadowed by administrative flip-flops. In an unprecedented move, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) revised the toll structure three times in three days, leaving commuters and logistics operators in a state of flux.
The confusion, which persisted until late Thursday night, reportedly stemmed from a last-minute recalibration of revenue-sharing agreements between the state and the private developers managing the country’s longest expressway.

The 72-Hour Timeline: From ₹1,514 to ₹1,765
The toll for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs), including cars and vans, saw wild fluctuations before settling on the current finalized rate:
-
Tuesday, April 28: Based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) of December 2025, the rate was initially pegged at ₹1,514 (calculated at ₹2.55 per km).
-
Wednesday, April 29: On the day of the inauguration, the notification was scrapped and replaced with a flat rate of ₹1,800.
-
Thursday, April 30: After a final review by UPEIDA, the rate was adjusted once more to ₹1,765, which is now the official fee for a full one-way journey.
Final Toll Rates at a Glance
Following the final revision on April 30, the cost of traveling the entire length of the expressway—connecting Meerut in the west to Prayagraj in the east—is as follows:
| Vehicle Category | Full Journey Rate (Current) | Previous Day Rate |
| Cars, Jeeps, Vans (LMV) | ₹1,765 | ₹1,800 |
| Two-Wheelers & Registered Tractors | ₹905 | ₹905 |
| Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV) | ₹2,840 | ₹2,910 |
| Buses and Trucks | ₹5,720 | ₹5,850 |
Revenue Split: Adani vs. IRB
The Ganga Expressway is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and the toll collected is split between the two infrastructure giants that constructed the stretch. Out of the ₹1,765 collected per car:
-
Adani Enterprises: Receives a share of ₹1,325 crore (estimated annual share).
-
IRB Infrastructure: Receives a share of ₹440 crore (estimated annual share).
A Strategic Corridor for Uttar Pradesh
Despite the initial “teething troubles” with tolling, the Ganga Expressway stands as a feat of engineering. By cutting travel time between Western and Eastern UP from 12 hours to roughly 6 hours, the corridor is expected to transform the industrial landscape of the state.

Key Features:
-
Length: 594 Kilometres
-
Connectivity: Links 12 districts, starting from Bijauli village (Meerut) to Judapur Dandu village (Prayagraj).
-
Economic Impact: Includes an airstrip for emergency landings and dedicated industrial clusters along the route.
Commuter Tip: While the rates have finally stabilized, UPEIDA officials have confirmed that FASTag integration is fully operational. Drivers are advised to maintain sufficient balance to avoid the double-toll penalty at the exit barriers.
