CHANDIGARH – In a mission highlighting its operational readiness, the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully airlifted five critically ill patients from the Ladakh sector to Chandigarh on Monday, June 8, 2026, to facilitate access to advanced medical care.

The evacuation mission involved the transport of five individuals who were in critical condition and required immediate access to advanced medical facilities. The group of evacuees comprised three Indian Army soldiers, one military dependent, and one local Ladakhi civilian.
The Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force coordinated the operation. Despite the severe challenges presented by the region’s high-altitude terrain and adverse weather conditions, the mission was completed successfully, with the primary objective being the timely and safe evacuation of the patients.

According to the Indian Air Force, this mission underscores the force’s vital role in emergency medical support for the region. As of June 2026, the Indian Air Force has successfully conducted medical evacuation missions that have saved a total of 143 lives within the Ladakh sector this year alone.
