FEROZEPUR — A state-level official function in Ferozepur witnessed high drama and a fierce confrontation between law enforcement and protesting educators. Members of the Computer Teachers Union, alongside other teacher and employee factions, marched toward the venue to register their long-standing demands before Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who was presiding over the tricolor-hoisting ceremony.

Preventive Detentions Spark Outrage

The face-off occurred a significant distance from the main event site, where heavy police deployments had cordoned off access routes. As authorities moved to block the approaching demonstrators from breaching the perimeter, a heated scuffle ensued.
According to officials, more than 100 protesters were forcibly taken into custody and loaded into buses to clear the area, causing tension to spike across the district.

Union Leaders Hit Out at Government Priorities

Fuming over the police action, union representatives claimed that the state administration is turning a blind eye to the financial security and regularization struggles of regular and contractual employees.
“The government has resources to distribute elsewhere, but it continues to push educators and employees to the brink,” said a union spokesperson. “We have approached authorities repeatedly through dialogue, but concrete action remains elusive, forcing us to take to the streets.”
Despite the widespread disruptions and demonstrations led by multiple organizations, the state-level celebration proceeded under multi-tier security, with the Chief Minister delivering an address emphasizing regional peace, governance milestones, and communal harmony
