Punjab Police Launch Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Networks

Multiple arrests across Amritsar and Ferozepur yield weapons, heroin, and cash seizures

Amritsar/Ferozepur Punjab Police have intensified their operations against organized drug networks, with coordinated arrests across two districts yielding a significant haul of weapons, narcotics, and cash.

Donny Bal Gang Members Arrested in Amritsar

In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Rural Police arrested two members of the gang led by fugitive gangster Donny Bal, who operates from abroad. The accused, identified as Balwinder Singh alias Bunty and Bakhshish Singh, both residents of Mehta, were apprehended during a targeted operation.

Acting on intelligence that the duo planned to supply weapons and drugs to another gangster operating in the area, police established a roadblock and intercepted the accused. The seizure was substantial: four foreign pistols, four magazines, half a kilogram of heroin, and ₹24 lakh in drug money.

During interrogation, the accused revealed their operational network. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Sohail Malik, Bunty and Bakhshish Singh maintained contact with Donny Bal through social media and were executing his directions to conduct extortion operations, carry out firing incidents, and distribute weapons and narcotics throughout the Majha region.

“The accused have confessed to their links with gangster Donny Bal and were actively involved in criminal activities under his instructions,” SSP Malik stated, adding that police continue to conduct raids to apprehend other gang members.

Ferozepur Police Bust Drug Supply Operation

In a separate operation, the Lakkhoke Bahram police station in Ferozepur arrested two suspected drug dealers following a tip-off from informants. Neeraj Chawla of Jalalabad Ward No. 4 and Arshdeep of Chak Budhoke, Jalalabad, were traveling on a motorcycle from Jalalabad toward Ferozepur when they were intercepted at a police checkpoint.

The seizure included 27 grams of heroin and ₹3.10 lakh in drug money. Police have registered a case and initiated a formal investigation into the operation.

Crackdown Continues

These operations reflect the ongoing commitment of Punjab Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks and combat organized crime. SSP Malik emphasized that multiple raids are underway to identify and arrest additional gang members, signalling an intensified effort to address the state’s persistent drug-related challenges.

Police have urged the public to report suspicious activities and tip-offs to assist in these ongoing enforcement operations.
