Police Apprehend Suspect in Karari Fuel Station Firing; Main Accused Still at Large

Jalandhar Law enforcement in Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested one suspect in connection with a brazen daylight shooting at the Karari fuel station, while intensifying their search for the primary accused who remains absconding. The operation, which unfolded over several hours, resulted in the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and three vehicles believed to have been used in the attack.

The incident unfolded on December 19th at approximately 1:18 PM near the Alawalpur police post in the Adampur police station area. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of 20 to 30 youths had gathered at the fuel station for St. Soldier College student elections when gunfire suddenly erupted from four vehicles that had pulled up to the scene.

Victims Hospitalized with Stable Conditions

Two individuals sustained gunshot wounds in the attack. Gurpreet Singh, identified as the Sarpanch of Shivdaspur village, was shot in the leg, while another victim, Saurav, sustained a gunshot wound to the back. Both were rushed to Fortis Hospital in Jalandhar, where medical staff confirmed their conditions remain stable.

Swift Police Response

Upon receiving reports of the shooting, Jalandhar Rural Police immediately cordoned off the area and mobilized multiple teams to locate the suspects. The operation was coordinated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harwinder Singh Virk and Superintendent (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai, alongside Deputy Superintendent Narinder Singh and Inspector Ramandeep Singh.

Suspect Arrested in Encounter

During the cordon operation conducted in Kahalwan village, Kapurthala district, one of the suspects opened fire on police. In the ensuing exchange, Lakhwinder Singh, alias Lakha, a resident of Nawan Pind in Kartarpur police station, was injured and subsequently arrested. He is currently under police custody and investigation.

Weapons and Vehicles Recovered

The police operation yielded significant recoveries, including a pistol, cartridges, and empty shell casings. Additionally, three vehicles involved in the incident were recovered from Kahalwan village, providing crucial evidence in the investigation.

Main Suspect Evades Authorities

Despite the successful arrest and recovery of evidence, the primary accused—Nachhattar Singh, alias Nachhattar Bai, a resident of Haddud in Dhilwan police station, Kapurthala district—managed to escape. Police officials attributed the suspect’s flight to the dense fog that blanketed the region at the time of the operation.

SSP Harwinder Singh Virk confirmed that continuous raids and coordinated search operations are underway to apprehend the main accused and other suspects involved in the incident. “The case is being investigated with utmost seriousness,” Virk stated, adding that “strict action will be taken against all the accused as per the law.”

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not disclosed a known motive for the firing, though the incident’s occurrence at a college election gathering suggests it may be connected to campus politics or rival factions. The investigation remains active, with additional details expected to emerge as the case progresses.
