Major Crackdown on Drug Trafficking Network Yields Significant Seizure
The Commissionerate Crime Branch of Jalandhar Police has dealt a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the region with the arrest of a young man carrying over 2 kilograms of opium. The operation, hailed as a success by police authorities, marks another step in the ongoing campaign against narcotic drug distribution networks.

Swift Action Against Suspected Trafficker
The arrest occurred when Crime Branch personnel stopped a suspicious individual near the Gurdwara and Ram Mandir junction on Guru Gobind Singh Avenue. Upon interrogation, the suspect was identified as Sahil, commonly known by the alias Khatri, a resident of Arjan Nagar in Jalandhar.
A subsequent search of the suspect led to the recovery of 2 kilograms and 10 grams of opium, a substantial quantity indicating commercial-scale trafficking rather than personal consumption. The seizure represents a significant haul in the ongoing fight against drug crime in the city.
High-Level Police Oversight
The operation was successfully executed under the supervision of senior police officials, demonstrating the Commissionerate’s commitment to combating drug trafficking at all organizational levels. The supervision team included DCP (Investigation) Manpreet Singh Dhillon, ADCP (Investigation) Jayant Puri, and ACP (Detective) Amarbir Singh.
Inspector Sarabjit Singh, In-charge of the Crime Branch, led the team that executed the arrest and recovery operation.
Commenting on the operation, Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur expressed satisfaction with the swift action and stated that such operations reflect the police force’s dedication to maintaining law and order in the city.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
A formal case has been registered against the accused at Rama Mandi Police Station under Sections 18, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These sections specifically address drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute, and related offenses that carry stringent penalties.
Criminal History Complicates Case
Investigation records reveal that Khatri is not a first-time offender. The accused already has four criminal cases registered against him at various police stations across the city, indicating a pattern of criminal behaviour and previous involvement in unlawful activities.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have initiated intensive questioning of the accused to extract information about the broader drug trafficking network. Investigators are focusing on identifying forward and backward links in the chain—attempting to determine both the suppliers providing the drugs and the distributors purchasing from the accused.
The Crime Branch has indicated that the investigation into this particular case may unveil connections to larger trafficking operations in the region. Authorities are employing rigorous interrogation techniques while maintaining procedural compliance and are hopeful that the case will lead to dismantling a significant portion of the local drug distribution network.

Commitment to Drug-Free City
This arrest aligns with the Jalandhar Police’s broader anti-narcotics strategy and their commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment for the community. Law enforcement officials continue to conduct regular operations targeting suspected traffickers and dealers, with orders to take strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to local police authorities.
