Patiala court takes action after MLA’s continued absence; next hearing scheduled for January 31
Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, the AAP MLA representing Sanaur constituency in Patiala district, has been declared a fugitive by a Patiala court after repeatedly failing to appear before it. The development marks a dramatic escalation in the case against the legislator, who is currently absconding abroad.

Court’s Action
On Saturday, the Patiala court issued the fugitive declaration against Pathanmajra in connection with a rape case filed against him. The court’s decision came after the MLA failed to comply with an ultimatum to appear by November 12. In addition to declaring him a fugitive, the court has ordered the police and concerned departments to submit detailed information regarding his movable and immovable properties.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for January 31, 2026.
The Allegations
A case was registered against Pathanmajra at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala in September 2025, following a complaint from a woman residing in Zirakpur. The woman has accused the MLA of rape, fraud, and intimidation. When police attempted to arrest him in Dabri village in Haryana, Pathanmajra evaded them and subsequently fled the country.
Flight Abroad
Videos posted on social media revealed that Pathanmajra had reached Australia shortly after absconding from India. From his location abroad, the MLA has launched a series of social media attacks against his own government, claiming that he has been falsely implicated in a fabricated case as part of what he describes as a political conspiracy.
His public allegations of being targeted by his own party have added another layer of controversy to an already contentious situation, raising questions about internal tensions within the AAP government in Punjab.

Political Implications
The declaration of a sitting MLA as a fugitive is unprecedented and reflects broader political turmoil within the state. Pathanmajra’s continued absence and his allegations of political persecution could have significant repercussions for the AAP government’s credibility and governance in Punjab.
The case will continue to unfold in the coming weeks, with the January 31 hearing expected to provide further clarity on the legal proceedings against the fugitive legislator.
