Major Drug Shipment Seized at Punjab Border: 12 kg Heroin Recovered in Joint Operation

Amritsar, Punjab In a significant breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and Border Security Force (BSF) have jointly seized a major consignment of heroin estimated at 12 kilograms and 50 grams in the Amritsar district. The operation, conducted near Dalleke village in the Lopoke police station area, marks another successful interdiction in the state’s ongoing battle against narcotics smuggling.

Intelligence-Led Operation Yields Results

According to official reports, security agencies received credible intelligence regarding suspicious drone activity in the sensitive border region. Acting swiftly on this information, ANTF and BSF teams launched a coordinated search operation in the border vicinity. The collaborative effort proved fruitful when authorities recovered the large heroin consignment from the fields near the targeted location.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that smugglers were attempting to transport the narcotics consignment from Pakistan into Punjab using an unmanned drone—a method increasingly employed by trafficking networks to circumvent traditional border security checkpoints.

Investigation Underway

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and a comprehensive investigation has been initiated by the concerned agencies. Investigators are currently working to unravel the entire smuggling network using technical evidence and human intelligence gathered during the operation.

Key aspects of the ongoing investigation include identifying the individuals who ordered the drugs, determining the intended delivery locations within Punjab, and establishing the identities and roles of all persons involved in the trafficking operation. Authorities are also examining the technical aspects of the drone delivery system to understand the operational methods of the smuggling network.

Zero Tolerance Policy on Drug Trafficking

The Punjab Police and security agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking in the state. A senior official statement issued following the seizure made clear that there is no room for drug traffickers in Punjab, and that strict action against such criminal elements will continue unabated.

This operation underscores the heightened vigilance being maintained at the border and the coordinated efforts of multiple agencies to prevent narcotics from reaching Punjab’s vulnerable population. The use of drone technology by smugglers has emerged as a growing concern, prompting enhanced surveillance and rapid response mechanisms along the international border.

The seizure adds to the growing list of successful drug interdictions in recent months, reflecting the determination of security forces to keep Punjab drug-free and protect its citizens from the devastating impact of narcotics trafficking.
