Tragedy Strikes Mac Choice Tool Factory; Woman Worker Who Started Job Just 10 Days Ago Among Victims
A devastating industrial accident claimed three lives and left several workers injured when a heavy container suddenly collapsed at a factory in Jalandhar, Punjab, on Tuesday. The incident has renewed serious concerns about workplace safety standards in the region’s manufacturing sector.
The accident occurred at Mac Choice Tool, a manufacturing facility located on Dhogri Road in Jalandhar. The factory, reportedly a second unit of the Vishal Tool company based in Gadaipur and owned by Keshav Shur, was in full operation when the tragedy struck without warning.

Victims and Impact
Three workers were killed instantly when the container fell during active production hours. Among the deceased is a woman identified as Simmi, who had only been employed at the factory for ten days. Her untimely death has devastated her family, who were already struggling after the loss of her husband. Simmi was the sole breadwinner for her two young children.
In addition to the three fatalities, more than nine workers sustained serious injuries in the incident. Hospital sources indicate that the condition of two injured workers remains critical as they receive emergency medical treatment.
Investigation Underway
Senior Superintendent of Police Harwinder Singh Virk confirmed that the incident occurred while work was underway at the facility. “A station house officer has reached the spot and is investigating the matter,” Virk stated, adding that statements from families of the deceased are being recorded as part of the formal inquiry.
Local residents reported that there was a significant delay in police arrival at the scene following the initial incident. Factory management has declined to speak to the media, and the factory manager’s silence has only added to growing questions about the circumstances leading to the accident.
Safety Concerns Raised
The incident has sparked widespread concern about factory safety protocols and workplace regulations. The sudden collapse of a heavy container points to potential failures in equipment maintenance, storage procedures, and structural safety measures that should be standard in industrial settings.
Industry experts note that the fact the accident occurred to a worker employed for less than two weeks raises additional questions about whether adequate safety training and induction procedures were followed for new employees before they were assigned to potentially hazardous work areas.

Community Response
The tragedy has cast a shadow of grief over the factory district. Colleagues of the deceased have gathered at local hospitals to support injured workers, while family members struggle to come to terms with their loss. In Simmi’s case, her death leaves her two children without parental support, a reality that has moved the community.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to examine whether the factory maintained proper safety standards, conducted regular equipment inspections, and had adequate emergency response protocols in place.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of rigorous workplace safety measures in industrial facilities across Punjab and the need for stringent enforcement of safety regulations to protect workers’ lives.
