Pooran Shah Koti, the revered music guru and father of renowned singer Master Saleem, has passed away after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a void that will be deeply felt across the music and cultural landscape.

Pooran Shah Koti, who lived in Deol Nagar, Jalandhar with his son, had been undergoing treatment for his ailment over an extended period. His death marks the end of an era for those who knew him as a guiding force in shaping modern Punjabi music.

A Mentor to Legends

The impact of Pooran Shah Koti’s death became immediately evident when former MP and accomplished singer Hans Raj Hans rushed to his residence to pay his respects. Visibly shaken, Hans was seen weeping uncontrollably—a poignant testament to the profound influence Pooran Shah had on his life and career.

Hans Raj Hans was among the many legendary artists who considered Pooran Shah Koti their guru and primary source of artistic inspiration. Alongside Hans, celebrated singer Jasbir Jassi also benefited from his mentorship, with both artists crediting him as the foundational pillar of their musical journey.

Deepak Bali, an advisor to the Punjab Tourism and Cultural Department, also visited Pooran Shah Koti’s home to express condolences, underscoring the recognition his contributions received not just from the music fraternity but from cultural institutions as well.
