Khanna Police Smash International Extortion Racket; Four Arrested for Payal Grain Market Shooting

KHANNA – In a major breakthrough against cross-border organized crime, the Khanna Police have arrested four members of a sophisticated extortion gang responsible for the brazen April 14 shooting at a commission agent’s shop. The investigation has revealed that the hit was orchestrated by handlers based in Australia with direct links to high-profile gangster Doni Ball.

The Incident: Terror in Dana Mandi

On the afternoon of April 14, the routine at the Payal Grain Market (Dana Mandi) was shattered when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the shop of a prominent rice mill owner and commission agent. While no fatalities were reported, the attack sent shockwaves through the local business community.

Investigations led by Khanna SSP Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia revealed that the shooting was not an isolated act of violence but a calculated attempt at extortion.

The Chase and Arrests

The breakthrough occurred during a police sweep near Sangam Palace. Officers spotted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee upon seeing the police party. In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect, identified as Umesh Kumar, climbed to the first floor of a vacant building but slipped and fell.

Under interrogation, Kumar confessed to his role as one of the shooters. His testimony provided the roadmap for subsequent arrests:

  • The Shooters: Umesh Kumar and his accomplice, Gaurav.

  • The Logistical Leads: Gurwinder Singh (alias Goldy) and Gaurav (alias Gola). Goldy reportedly used his personal vehicle to conduct a comprehensive “recce” (reconnaissance) of the shop days before the strike.

  • The Local Connection: Saudagar Singh, the father of the mastermind Shaganpreet Singh, has also been taken into custody.

The International Connection: Australia to Punjab

The most chilling aspect of the case is the involvement of overseas handlers. Police have identified Shaganpreet Singh (the former manager of the late singer Sidhu Moosewala) and Jagpreet Singh, both currently residing in Australia, as the primary orchestrators.

“The syndicate operated through a hierarchy,” stated SSP Ahluwalia. “Local family members gathered intelligence on wealthy targets and relayed it to Shaganpreet and Jagpreet in Australia. These handlers then collaborated with gangster Doni Ball to coordinate the execution of threats and shootings.”

The Operation Roadmap

Stage Details
Intelligence Local informants identified the rice mill owner as a target.
Strategy The accused gathered in Sahnewal to receive final instructions via phone from Australia.
Reconnaissance Goldy and Gola mapped the escape routes and shop timings using a private vehicle.
Execution Shots were fired to intimidate the merchant into meeting extortion demands.

What’s Next?

The Khanna Police are currently conducting an intensive interrogation of the four suspects. Officials have hinted that more “major revelations” are on the horizon as they work to dismantle the remaining local nodes of this international network.

The arrest of Saudagar Singh signals a stern warning from the authorities: those providing local support to overseas criminals will face the full force of the law. Efforts to extradite or issue red corner notices for the Australia-based handlers are expected to follow.
