Tragedy at Haryana Civil Secretariat: Man Jumps to Death from 8th Floor

CHANDIGARH A wave of panic and shock swept through the Haryana Civil Secretariat on Monday after a man committed suicide by jumping from the eighth floor of the high-security building.

The incident, which occurred during peak working hours, brought administrative operations to a temporary standstill as security personnel and employees rushed to the scene.

Identity and Entry Details

The deceased has been identified as Balwant. Preliminary reports suggest that although the secretariat is a restricted zone, Balwant managed to gain entry by obtaining a standard visitor’s pass. It remains unclear at this stage whether he had come to meet a specific official or if the entry was sought solely to carry out the act.

Chaos at the Scene

Witnesses described a scene of sudden chaos as the body hit the ground near the building’s entrance. The loud impact triggered immediate alarm among the Punjab and Haryana police personnel stationed at the gate.

“There was a loud sound, and suddenly there was shouting everywhere. People were running toward the spot, and the security cordoned off the area within minutes,” said an employee who was present at the secretariat.

Police Investigation Underway

The Chandigarh Police have officially taken custody of the body and sent it to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination. Forensic teams were seen collecting evidence from the eighth-floor balcony to determine the exact sequence of events.

Key investigation points include:

  • The motive behind the suicide.

  • The verification of the visitor pass and the purpose of his visit.

  • Possible security lapses regarding access to the upper floors of the building.
