JALANDHAR — A long-standing neighborhood dispute escalated into a full-blown violent conflict in Jalandhar’s Kabir Nagar area on Wednesday night, turning a residential street into a battlefield of stone-pelting, vandalism, and alleged gunfire.
The severity of the clash prompted an immediate, massive response from law enforcement, with Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-1) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) North rushing to the spot with a heavy police contingent to restore order.
The Flashpoint: An Escalating Neighbourhood Feud
According to local residents, an underlying enmity had been brewing between two families residing in Street Number 6 of Kabir Nagar for months. Locals noted that a physical altercation had previously broken out between the two parties on May 13, but the peace proved temporary.
On Wednesday night, a verbal dispute involving highly abusive language rapidly deteriorated. Within minutes, the argument turned physical, with both sides aggressively hurling bricks and stones at each other, sending neighbouring residents scrambling for safety and plunging the locality into deep panic.
High-Stakes Allegations: Gunfire and Vehicle Vandalism
The situation took a critical turn when one party accused the other of escalating the violence to lethal levels.
According to the victims, the opposing side called in a group of unidentified, armed youths to intimidate them. The attackers allegedly:

“They have been mentally harassing our family for a very long time,” a female member of the victimized family stated. “They brought outsiders armed with weapons to terrorize us. My daughter was molested, abused, and threatened with her life.”
Counter-Claims: “Deliberate Defamation”
Conversely, the opposing party has completely denied the narrative, labelling all accusations of gunfire, molestation, and orchestrated violence as entirely baseless and fabricated.
They counter-claimed that they are being targeted in a smear campaign and asserted that they were actually the ones who initially dialled the police helpline to report the neighborhood disturbance.
