FEROZEPUR, PUNJAB — In a major blow to cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Ferozepur Police have arrested three smugglers and seized a massive haul of contraband, including over 10 kilograms of heroin and two kilograms of high-grade ‘ice’ (crystal methamphetamine). The operation, which also led to the recovery of sophisticated illegal weaponry, has exposed a growing nexus between drug cartels and cross-border arms smuggling.
The arrests were confirmed by DIG Ferozepur, Snehdeep Sharma, who hailed the intelligence-led operations as a significant victory in the district’s ongoing battle against organized crime.

The “Drone-Drop” Heroin Connection
The first phase of the crackdown was spearheaded by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff. Acting on specific, actionable intelligence regarding a large-scale heroin consignment, the team conducted a targeted raid and apprehended a key operative identified as Om.
Upon searching the suspect, police recovered 10 kg and 125 grams of heroin, valued at approximately ₹50 crore in the international market. Preliminary interrogations have revealed a sophisticated modus operandi: the accused allegedly maintained deep-rooted ties with handlers across the border, utilizing illegal drone technology to drop drug consignments from Pakistan directly into Indian territory.
Multi-State Crackdown on “Ice” and Arms
In a parallel operation, law enforcement targeted a separate ring specializing in synthetic drugs and illegal firearms. Police teams from the Arif Ke station intercepted two suspects, Jaswant Kumar and Sumit Kumar, at a checkpoint near Talli Saida Sahu village.
The search of the individuals yielded:
-
2 kilograms of “Ice” (Crystal Methamphetamine)
-
A high-end, Turkey-made pistol
Authorities believe this syndicate was involved in the dual distribution of lethal narcotics and illegal weapons. “The recovery of a foreign-made weapon alongside a substantial quantity of synthetic drugs indicates a well-funded criminal network operating in our border regions,” said a police spokesperson.
Seeking the Roots of the Network
The Ferozepur Police have registered formal cases against all three suspects under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu stated that the investigation has now entered a critical phase. “We are not just looking at these three individuals,” SSP Sidhu noted. “Our focus is to map the entire supply chain, from the cross-border handlers who operate the drones to the local distribution networks waiting to receive these illicit goods.”
As the state intensifies its anti-narcotics campaign, the Ferozepur police continue to conduct follow-up raids to identify further links and dismantle the infrastructure supporting these smuggling rings.
