Punjab Government Fast-Tracks Regularization of Contractual Employees, Finance Minister Assures Unions

CHANDIGARH — In a concerted effort to address long-standing grievances, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema met with representatives from six major employee unions today, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to regularizing the workforce.

As the Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee specifically tasked with resolving employee issues, Mr. Cheema held extensive discussions with union leaders to review their demands. The meeting focused primarily on the status of contractual and outsourced staff, a cornerstone issue for the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.

Commitment to Workforce Stability

Addressing the delegation, Finance Minister Cheema reiterated the government’s policy shift aimed at providing job security to thousands of state employees.

“The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has already announced its decision to regularize contractual employees and convert outsourced workers to contract-based status,” Mr. Cheema stated. He confirmed that the wheels of implementation are already in motion.

To ensure these promises move from policy to practice, the Finance Minister issued a directive to top-level administrative, personnel, and finance officials. He instructed them to:

  • Expedite the implementation process for regularization and status conversion.

  • Resolve all legitimate employee demands on a “fast-track mode.”

  • Coordinate across departments to eliminate bureaucratic delays.
