DERABASSI, PUNJAB — Strengthening its commitment to fostering an industry-friendly ecosystem, the Punjab government has officially commissioned a new 66 KV Grid Substation at the Focal Point in Mubarakpur. The facility, built at a cost of approximately Rs. 9.60 crore, marks a strategic milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to bolster power infrastructure for burgeoning industrial and residential hubs.
The project was inaugurated by Punjab Industries and Commerce Minister Aman Arora and Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, alongside Derabassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa.

Powering Industrial Expansion
Designed with a capacity of 40 MVA, the new substation is set to become a vital utility for the region, significantly enhancing power reliability for the PSIEC Focal Point in Mubarakpur and the surrounding areas of Derabassi and Lalru. By offloading the burden on the existing network, the grid aims to eliminate persistent power supply bottlenecks that have historically hampered local industrial productivity.
“No state can progress without industrial development,” stated Minister Aman Arora during the event. “Through our progressive policies, the Bhagwant Singh Mann government has transformed Punjab into a preferred destination for industry and investment.”
Arora expressed optimism regarding the state’s economic trajectory, noting that Punjab is on track to surpass its ambitious investment target of Rs. 65,000 crore for the current financial year.
A Pro-Industry Roadmap
Addressing the concerns of local entrepreneurs, the ministers outlined several priority initiatives aimed at removing bureaucratic hurdles:
-
Administrative Efficiency: Decisions on industrial plot allocations are expected within the coming week.
-
Infrastructure & Logistics: Official approval has been granted for the construction of a new focal point gate, and the government has committed to the immediate upgrading of Ramgarh Road.
-
Streamlined Operations: The government is addressing pending administrative issues, including the realignment of the Labour Inspector’s jurisdiction to Derabassi.
“Power Blackouts Will Be a Thing of the Past”
Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond highlighted that the state is upgrading its power infrastructure on a “war footing.” He outlined key government initiatives, including the One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme for the regularization of industrial plots, the establishment of an Appellate Authority for plot-related disputes, and the conversion of leasehold plots into freehold.
Furthermore, the government is modernizing 26 industrial focal points across the state with comprehensive infrastructure improvements, including CCTV surveillance, enhanced lighting, industrial-grade drinking water systems, and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs).

A Milestone for Derabassi
MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa, who championed the project, thanked the cabinet ministers for their swift action. He noted that the project, which commenced construction in 2023, is a testament to the government’s focus on rural and suburban industrialization.
Representatives of the Derabassi Industry Association welcomed the development, noting that the reliable, uninterrupted power supply provided by the new grid is essential for the sustained economic and industrial health of the region.
The project, executed with the support of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), is expected to serve as a catalyst for new investments and local employment generation in the coming years.
