JALANDHAR – The long-awaited transformation of Adampur Airport has officially been realized. Following a formal notification issued by the Government of India, the facility has been renamed Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji Airport, Adampur, marking a significant milestone for the region and the millions of devotees of the revered saint across the globe.
The decision fulfils a landmark announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his high-profile visit to Dera Ballan in Jalandhar. During that visit, the Prime Minister highlighted his administration’s deep respect for the saint community and the profound cultural impact of Guru Ravidas Ji’s teachings.

A Tribute to Equality and Brotherhood
The renaming is being hailed as a fitting tribute to Sant Shiromani Shri Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji, whose life and philosophy cantered on the principles of equality, social harmony, and universal brotherhood.
Avinash Chander Clair, a member of the BJP Punjab Core Committee, expressed the profound impact of this decision on the community. “Dedicating this airport to Guru Ravidas Maharaj Ji honours the sentiments of millions of devotees worldwide,” Clair stated. “It serves as a testament to his timeless message of humanity and provides a platform for future generations to draw inspiration from his ideals of social welfare.”
Strengthening Cultural Recognition
Political observers note that this move is part of a broader commitment by the Central Government to honour the legacy of India’s spiritual leaders. This initiative follows other high-profile gestures, including the conferment of the Padma Shri award upon the Dera Ballan head, Sant Niranjan Dass ji, which has been widely interpreted as a symbol of the government’s commitment to the community’s heritage.

Regional Impact
The formal gazetting of the name change has triggered an outpouring of joy and enthusiasm throughout Punjab. For the local population, the airport—a vital gateway to the Doaba region—now stands not only as a piece of infrastructure but as a landmark of spiritual and social pride.
With the official notification now in effect, preparations are underway to update signage and official communications to reflect the new name, cementing the airport’s identity as a tribute to one of India’s most influential spiritual figures.
