Four-Member ‘Fake Police’ Gang Busted in Mansa: Extortion Racket Dismantled by Jhunir Police

MANSA, PUNJAB – In a significant crackdown on organized crime, the Mansa Police have dismantled a criminal gang that had been terrorizing commuters by posing as police personnel. Four individuals were taken into custody following a strategic operation by the Jhunir Police station.

The Modus Operandi: Fear and Extortion

According to officials, the gang operated using a Swift car to intercept unsuspecting passers-by, primarily in the vicinity of village Modha near Sardulgarh. The suspects posed as officers from the CIA Staff Mansa, subjecting victims to illegal searches and threatening to implicate them in fabricated drug smuggling cases unless they paid hefty sums of money.

The Turning Point

The gang’s downfall was triggered by an incident on June 20, when they stopped a motorcyclist. Despite the victim possessing nothing illegal, the group threatened to frame him for drug trafficking. They seized his mobile phone, contacted his mother, and demanded a Rs 20,000 extortion payment, directing the family to deliver the money near the Jhunir police station.

Sensing something was amiss, the victim’s family immediately notified local authorities. The Jhunir Police acted swiftly, laying a trap at the designated meeting point and successfully apprehending the four suspects as they attempted to collect the ransom.

A History of Criminal Activity

SP (Headquarters) Pradeep Sandhu addressed the media, confirming that the arrested youths are repeat offenders. Preliminary investigations indicate that the individuals have extensive criminal histories, with prior cases registered against them for:

  • Drug Smuggling

  • Armed Robbery

  • Bank Heists

Investigation Continues

The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the depth of the gang’s criminal network. Authorities are currently seeking judicial remand to interrogate the suspects further, with a focus on uncovering how long the gang has been active and identifying the source of any police-related equipment or uniforms that may have been used to deceive the public.

“More significant revelations are expected as the interrogation proceeds,” said SP Sandhu, noting that the police are committed to rooting out such elements to ensure the safety of the citizens of Mansa.
