RUDRAPRAYAG, Uttarakhand – A tense four-day standoff at the Nagarasu Gurdwara, which had disrupted regional stability and raised concerns among the pilgrim community, concluded peacefully on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now completely calm, with the Gurdwara management restored to its administrator and normal religious activities resuming.

Resolution Through Dialogue
The breakthrough came following a series of high-level negotiations between representatives of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), local religious leaders, and the Uttarakhand state government.
A delegation led by SGPC President Harmeet Singh Kalka held a crucial meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Dehradun. The discussions cantered on addressing grievances related to the initial dispute and ensuring the safety of devotees. Following these assurances, the four Nihang Singhs who had remained inside the Gurdwara premises voluntarily agreed to depart, bringing the occupation to an end.
Government Response and Judicial Inquiry
To ensure an impartial resolution, the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters has taken decisive administrative action:
-
Transfer of Investigation: All FIRs registered by the involved parties have been transferred to Haridwar to facilitate a neutral probe.
-
High-Level Oversight: A formal investigation into allegations of misconduct against Sikh devotees has been handed over to a Deputy Inspector General (DIG)-level officer.
“The dispute has been resolved through the collective cooperation of the administration, police, and religious leadership,” a government spokesperson stated. “Our priority remains the safety and comfort of all travellers and pilgrims.”
Normalcy Returns to Hemkund Sahib Route
The standoff, which began on June 20, had prompted a heavy deployment of Police, ITBP, and PAC personnel. With the situation now stabilized, the administration has begun scaling back security forces.
Traffic on the national highway, which had been intermittently affected, is now moving normally. Security agencies continue to monitor the area via drone surveillance as a precautionary measure, but officials emphasize that the Hemkund Sahib Yatra remains unaffected. Pilgrims are encouraged to proceed with their journeys, as the administration has guaranteed full security arrangements.

“Langar and Ardas are being conducted peacefully once again,” the administrator stated, signaling a return to the Gurdwara’s daily routines. The administration has urged the public to ignore rumors and rely on official updates as the region settles into a state of normalcy.
