FIR Filed Against ADGP’s Wife Amneet in ASI Sandeep’s Suicide Case; MLA Brother-in-Law Also Named

Rohtak, Haryana | October 15:
A major twist has emerged in the high-profile suicide case of Haryana Police ASI Sandeep Lathar (42), who was found dead after shooting himself on his maternal uncle’s farm in Rohtak. Police have now registered an FIR against four individuals, including IAS officer Amneet Kumar, wife of late ADGP Y. Puran Kumar, her MLA brother Amit Ratan, and jailed gunman Sushil Kumar, for abetment to suicide.

The case was filed based on a complaint by Sandeep’s wife, Santosh, who accused the four of mental harassment and pressure that allegedly drove her husband to take his life.

Viral Video and Suicide Note Before Death

Before his death, ASI Sandeep recorded a 6-minute, 28-second video and left a four-page suicide note, both of which have gone viral on social media. In his emotional message, he accused senior police officials of corruption and injustice, including ADGP Y. Puran Kumar, who himself died by suicide just eight days earlier in Chandigarh.

In the video, Sandeep can be heard saying,

“If Bhagat Singh were alive today, he would be ashamed of the people we fought for. I am going to sacrifice myself in the fight for honesty. Goodbye, friends — even in my next life, I will fight the same battle.”

Family’s Demands and CM’s Response

After Sandeep’s death, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini personally visited the family to offer condolences. Later in the day, his OSD arrived with a copy of the FIR, confirming action in the case.
However, the grieving family has refused to consent to a post-mortem, demanding:

  • Martyr status for ASI Sandeep,

  • A government job for his wife, and

  • Financial assistance from the state.

Two Suicides, Eight Days Apart

The tragedy has shaken the Haryana Police. ADGP Y. Puran Kumar was found dead on October 7 after allegedly shooting himself at his Sector 11 residence in Chandigarh. His cremation took place on Wednesday, eight days after his post-mortem. Exactly eight days later, ASI Sandeep, who had served under the Rohtak Range, ended his life, reigniting debate over corruption and mental stress within the police force.
