Due to the fall in the prices of food items, especially vegetables, wholesale price based inflation came down to 2.31 percent in January. . The figures related to this were released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday. Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation was 2.37 percent in December 2024. It was 0.33 percent in January 2024.
According to the data, inflation of food items came down to 5.88 percent in January, while it was 8.47 percent in December 2024. Vegetable inflation declined significantly to 8.35 per cent as against 28.65 per cent in December 2024.
Potato inflation remained high at 74.28 per cent, while onion inflation rose to 28.33 per cent in January. The fuel and power category witnessed deflation of 2.78 per cent in January as against 3.79 per cent in December. Inflation in manufactured goods stood at 2.51 per cent as against 2.14 per cent in December 2024.
Retail inflation data released on Wednesday showed that Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation declined to 4.31 per cent in January, a five-month low, due to softening of food prices.
