Chandigarh:
In a landmark initiative aimed at reviving sports culture and community spirit in rural Punjab, the state government has announced the construction of 3,117 model playgrounds across 23 districts at an estimated cost of ₹966 crore. The project, announced by Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund, is expected to be completed within the next six months.
“This is not just a government scheme—it’s an investment in Punjab’s future,” said Minister Saund. “Every village will have a beautiful playground where children can play, society can connect, and culture can thrive.”
District-Wise Development
Under this mega project, model playgrounds will be developed in every district, including:

Each playground will span between 0.35 to 4.10 acres, equipped with open gyms, volleyball and basketball courts, hockey and cricket facilities, and other modern sports amenities.
30 Villages in Khanna to Benefit
In the Khanna Assembly constituency, 30 out of 67 villages will soon have their own model playgrounds. These include Bhadla Uncha, Boothgarh, Goh, Malkapur, Manak Majra, Sahibpura, Bhumdi, Chakohi, Ikolahi, Kamana, Daihdu, Faizgarh, Kishanpur, Panjrukha, Turmari, Bibipur, Ganduan, Kauri, Kishangarh, Lalheri, Libda, Mehndipur, Jaspalon, Fatehpur, Rajewal, Rohno Khurd, Isru, Nasrali, and Khatra.
Fighting Drugs, Building Futures
Saund emphasized that the project’s goal extends beyond sports infrastructure.
“Punjab’s true strength lies in its villages. If our villages are strong, Punjab will be strong. These playgrounds will keep our youth engaged, channel their energy positively, and help keep them away from drugs,” he said.

Several senior officials attended the event, including BDPO Satwinder Singh Kang, SDO Arpit Sharma, APO Harsimran Singh, Panchayat Officer Kuldeep Singh, JE Gurpreet Singh, OSD Karan Arora, and Advocate Manreet Singh Nagra.
In essence, this ₹966-crore project is more than an infrastructure push — it’s a social mission to rejuvenate village life, promote health, and empower Punjab’s youth through sports.
