The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has taken a game-changing decision—a massive relief for millions of tenants and landlords! The state government has completely exempted stamp duty and registration fees on tenancy agreements up to 10 years, making rental deals simpler, cheaper, and fully transparent.
Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced the decision, stating that the move aims to end oral agreements, reduce disputes, and ensure the effective implementation of the Tenancy Regulation Act.

⚡ Why This Decision Matters
-
Earlier, only tenancies above 1 year required registration—yet most people avoided it due to high costs.
-
Agencies like GST and Electricity Department often caught unregistered leases and penalized tenants/landlords for deficient stamp duty.
-
The government realized that heavy fees were discouraging formal agreements, so a full exemption system was introduced.
⚡ What’s New?
The government has now capped stamp duty & registration fees for tenancy deeds based on average annual rent.
Toll leases & mining leases are excluded to prevent revenue loss.
Minister Ravindra Jaiswal said the cap will directly help the public—no more heavy stamp duty, and leasing will now be easier and faster.
