Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu Issues Public Apology Amidst Heated Political Controversy

AMRITSAR – Amidst escalating political tensions in Punjab, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, Ravneet Singh Bittu, issued a formal public apology today, addressing the controversy surrounding his recent remarks that sparked nationwide outrage.

Addressing the media at the Amritsar airport, the Union Minister sought to clear the air, stating that he never intended to hurt the sentiments of any community or undermine the dignity of any institution.

The Apology

Facing mounting pressure from political opponents and community organizations, Bittu expressed his “heartfelt regret” regarding the remarks made during a recent high-stakes confrontation.

“If the sentiments of any community have been hurt due to the words that came out of my mouth, I express my deepest regret,” Bittu said. “I have always respected every class, community, and religion. It has never been my intention to belittle the SC, OBC, Hindu, Sikh, or any other community.”

He further underscored his willingness to address the matter formally, stating, “If any commission or concerned authority invites me to present my side, I will go. If it is necessary for the sake of peace and harmony, I am willing to offer an apology in writing or even visit religious places to convey my sincerity.”

Context of the Controversy

The controversy stems from a volatile incident earlier this week in Dhuri, where a standoff occurred between Bittu and the Punjab Police following the detention of a local BJP leader. Critics, including leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress, accused the Minister of using derogatory language toward law enforcement and engaging in “hooliganism.”

Bittu, however, contextualized the event as one occurring in a “very heated and tense atmosphere.” He maintained that his frustration was directed at the political environment rather than the police as an institution, stressing that he has deep respect for the uniform.

Addressing Punjab’s Governance

Beyond the apology, the Union Minister took the opportunity to pivot to the broader challenges facing the state. He expressed grave concern over the current law and order situation, specifically citing the rise of gangsterism, attacks on police personnel, and the illegal seizure of weapons.

“Strong and decisive steps need to be taken to make Punjab free from crime,” Bittu asserted, calling on all sections of society to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to restore order.

Internal Political Critique

When asked about the current political climate and remarks made by senior leader Captain Amarinder Singh regarding the Punjab BJP’s leadership, Bittu emphasized party unity. He lauded Captain Amarinder as a seasoned veteran whose guidance remains invaluable to the state’s political discourse.

Conversely, he took a sharp jab at the Congress party, noting that the open infighting and contradictory statements from its leaders are clear indicators of a lack of unity and internal stability.

A Pledge for the Future

Concluding his address, Bittu reiterated that his primary focus remains serving the people of Punjab. He promised a more cautious approach to his public discourse, stating, “In the future, I will choose my words more carefully. My basic purpose in politics is to serve the people and strengthen social harmony.

As the political dust settles, all eyes remain on how the opposition and various social organizations will respond to the Minister’s overture for reconciliation.
