Major Punjab Police Reshuffle: CM’s Home District Gets New SSP as Four Districts Swap Chiefs

CHANDIGARH – In a significant administrative shake-up, the Punjab Government on Tuesday night ordered the immediate transfer of six senior police officers, including three IPS and three PPS officers. The reshuffle has notably overhauled the leadership in the districts of Sangrur, Moga, Fazilka, and Malerkotla.

The move is seen as a strategic realignment of the state’s law and order apparatus, with a high-profile change in Sangrur—the home district of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Key Leadership Changes

According to the official orders issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, the following appointments have been made:

  • Dr. Ravjot Grewal (IPS): Formerly the Joint Director in the Vigilance Bureau, Dr. Grewal has been appointed as the SSP of Sangrur. Her appointment is particularly noteworthy as she takes charge of the Chief Minister’s home turf.

  • Sartaj Singh Chahal (IPS): Moving from his post as SSP Sangrur, Chahal has been designated as the new SSP of Moga.

  • Ajay Gandhi (IPS): The outgoing SSP of Moga has been shifted to the police headquarters in Chandigarh, where he will serve as AIG (Provisioning).

  • Gagan Ajit Singh (PPS): Previously serving as SSP Malerkotla, he has been transferred to serve as the SSP of Fazilka.

  • Gurmeet Singh (PPS): In a direct swap, the former SSP of Fazilka has been posted as the new SSP of Malerkotla.

Vigilance and Administrative Shifts

In addition to the district swaps, Sukhjaz Singh has been officially transferred to the Vigilance Bureau, filling a vacancy left by the departmental shifts.

The reshuffle wasn’t limited to the police force; the state also saw changes in the civil administration. Poonamdeep Kaur (IAS) has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Sangrur, while Rahul Chaba (IAS) takes over as the Deputy Commissioner of Faridkot.
