MOHALI — In a highly sensitive, high-profile case that has sent shockwaves through the political corridors of Punjab, the Mataur Police have arrested Jaskaranjit Singh Deol, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and in-charge of the Dakha constituency. Deol faces severe charges, including rape, kidnapping, and criminal intimidation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, for the alleged brutal abuse of a 14-and-a-half-year-old minor girl.
The arrest took place at a residential flat in the ‘Homeland Heights’ complex in Sector-70, Mohali, following a formal written complaint lodged by the victim’s father, a resident of a village in the Ludhiana district.
A Web of Deceit and Exploitation
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant alleged that Deol initially gained the family’s trust before trapping his wife in an illicit relationship. In October 2024, the accused reportedly lured the woman and her two daughters away from their family home, relocating them to a flat in Mohali.
The father stated that while his family structure was systematically dismantled, Deol harboured sinister intentions toward his elder daughter, who was studying at a school hostel.
Hostage, Assault, and Extortion Threats
The harrowing details emerged when the minor managed to reunite with her father on May 9, recounting her months-long ordeal. The victim alleged that while Deol was supposedly transporting her back from her school hostel, he forcibly diverted her to a hotel instead of taking her home.
The complaint states that Deol sexually assaulted the minor at the hotel. When she resisted, the accused allegedly subjected her to a brutal physical beating. To ensure her silence, Deol reportedly threatened her with lethal consequences, claiming he would have her father assassinated by Canada-based gangsters if she revealed the assault to anyone.
Additional Shocking Revelations
The complainant also brought forward stunning allegations regarding the domestic situation. The minor girl reportedly revealed to her father that her mother had given birth to a child resulting from her relationship with Deol—a development that was actively concealed from society.
Furthermore, the father noted that neither Jaskaranjit Singh Deol nor the victim’s mother had legally divorced their respective spouses. Deol, a resident of Sahauli village, has a wife and two children, while the victim’s mother hails from Birmi village in the Dakha constituency.
Legal Action and Current Status
Following the father’s detailed statement, the Mataur Police Station swiftly registered a criminal case. The accused has been booked under Section 6 of the POCSO Act (Aggravated Penetrative Sexual Assault)—a non-bailable offense carrying a minimum of 20 years to life imprisonment—alongside relevant sections of the penal code governing kidnapping, rape, and criminal intimidation.
The police confirmed that Jaskaranjit Singh Deol has been taken into custody. Given the highly sensitive nature of the case and the involvement of a minor, the police have stated that the investigation is being handled with absolute confidentiality and urgency. The victim is expected to record her statement before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC/BNSS as the legal proceedings move to a fast-track special POCSO court.
