GUNTER IN PANIC: Gunmen Open Fire Outside Elderly Jeweler’s Residence in Jalandhar’s Posh Chhoti Baradari

JALANDHAR — A brazen late-night shooting outside the residence of a prominent local jeweller has left the residents of Chhoti Baradari Part-1—one of Jalandhar’s most affluent localities—in a state of absolute panic.

The targeted attack took place outside house number 325, the residence of 84-year-old jeweller Gurdial Singh Kanda. While multiple shots were fired directly at the businessman, officials confirmed that he miraculously escaped unhurt.

The Incident: A Post-Dinner Stroll Turns Violent

According to local reports, the incident occurred late in the evening when Kanda was taking a routine walk outside his home after dinner. The peaceful neighborhood was suddenly shattered when unidentified youths riding a motorcycle pulled up and unleashed a sudden barrage of gunfire toward him.

Eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the attackers fired approximately five rounds in rapid succession.

“The sound of constant gunfire triggered immediate chaos,” said a local resident who rushed out upon hearing the shots. “Everyone panicked and ran out to see what happened, but by then, the shooters had already sped away.”

Taking advantage of the dark, the assailants managed to flee the scene on their motorcycle immediately after the ambush.

Police Launch Investigation, Scrutinize CCTV

Upon receiving distress calls, a heavy contingent of the Jalandhar Police rushed to the spot to secure the area and launch an immediate probe. Forensic teams have reportedly collected bullet casings and other vital physical evidence from the crime scene.

Official Status: Investigators are currently reviewing footage from multiple CCTV cameras installed in the victim’s house and neighbouring properties to identify the registration number of the motorcycle and trace the escape route of the shooters.

While the police have remained tight-lipped about specific leads, preliminary investigations suggest the attack may not be a random act of street crime. Authorities are currently exploring various angles, with a primary focus on the possibility of an old rivalry or potential extortion threats, given the victim’s background in the jewellery business.

No arrests have been made at the time of reporting, and further investigation is underway.
