CM Mann Announces Free Roadways Travel for NEET Aspirants in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: In a major relief for medical aspirants across the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that NEET students will not be charged any fare on state-run roadways buses while traveling to and from their examination centres.

The decision aims to support students from economically weaker backgrounds who face financial hurdles when traveling for crucial national exams.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Chief Minister Mann highlighted that the initiative was prompted by direct feedback from the students themselves. During a recent interaction with AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, several NEET candidates expressed difficulties regarding the logistics and expenses of commuting to their designated test centres.

Key Details of the Travel Waive

To ensure a hassle-free travel experience, the Punjab government has outlined specific guidelines for students looking to avail of the free service:

  • Applicable Dates: The fare waiver will be active for three days—June 20, 21, and 22covering the day before, the day of, and the day after the examination.

  • Eligible Services: The benefit is valid across all Punjab Roadways buses operating across the state.

  • Verification Process: Students do not need to register on any portal or book tickets in advance. Showing a valid NEET Admit Card to the bus conductor will serve as their ticket.

“Many poor students appear for the NEET exam, and some do not even have the financial means to travel to the exam centres. Following their request for assistance during a recent interaction, the Punjab government has decided to waive the bus fare so that no student misses out on their career dreams due to financial constraints,” the Chief Minister stated.

With the NEET exam scheduled for June 21, authorities have instructed Punjab Roadways staff to ensure smooth execution of the directive and extend full cooperation to the traveling students.
