Punjabi Singer R Nait Faces Backlash: Shiv Sena Files Complaint Over “Reel” Music Video

LUDHIANA – Punjabi music sensation R Nait has found himself at the centre of a mounting controversy following the release of his latest track, “Reel.” The singer is facing a formal police complaint filed by the Shiv Sena Punjab, which alleges that the music video contains content offensive to the Hindu community.

The Allegations

The complaint, submitted to the Ludhiana Police at Station Division No. 3, claims that the song’s visual representation of Hindu saints and sacred symbols of the Sanatan Dharma is deeply disrespectful. Members of the organization argue that the portrayal mocks religious figures, thereby hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees.

Specifically, the objection centres on scenes featuring the singer and his background dancers adorned in saffron robes, Rudraksha beads, and traditional religious attire. The complainants highlighted instances where figures dressed as sadhus (monks) are depicted engaging in behaviour they deem inappropriate or trivial—such as chanting with rosaries while simultaneously operating modern electronic devices like laptops, and participating in scenes that the organization views as mocking the sanctity of monastic life.

Police Response

Ludhiana police authorities have confirmed the receipt of the written complaint. According to the station in-charge of Division No. 3, the department is treating the matter with seriousness.

“We have received a complaint regarding the hurt caused to religious sentiments. We are currently in the process of reviewing the music video and examining the technical aspects of the content,” the official stated.

The investigation is ongoing. Police have indicated that once the review is complete, the findings will be shared with senior officials to determine the appropriate legal course of action, in accordance with established laws regarding religious harmony.

The Content in Question

The music video for “Reel” features R Nait in various sequences, beginning with him dressed as a monk, complete with large Rudraksha beads and traditional accessories. The narrative of the song—cantered around a woman’s frustration over her social media content—is juxtaposed against these religious caricatures.

The video transitions from a day-time scene involving a “monk-like” court to night-time scenes where the artist swaps his religious attire for modern jackets, all while maintaining the presence of background performers dressed in saffron robes.

As of now, R Nait has yet to release an official statement regarding the objections. The music video remains accessible on public platforms as authorities continue their probe into whether the artistic choices cross the line into criminal offense.
