CM Yogi Inspects Jewar Airport; 12 Million Annual Passenger Capacity at Launch, Five Runways Planned

Jewar (Gautam Buddha Nagar), November 28 Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Noida International Airport currently under construction in Jewar, emphasizing the need for swift completion of security clearances and quality construction as the state prepares for the facility’s inauguration.

The visit comes as the ambitious aviation project inches closer to becoming operational, with plans to initially handle 12 million passengers annually before expanding into one of the world’s largest airports.

Ground Inspection and High-Level Review

During his visit, CM Yogi toured the terminal building, proposed inauguration venue, and various construction sites, closely monitoring security management systems, traffic arrangements, and the physical progress of development work.

The Chief Minister subsequently convened a high-level review meeting in the airport boardroom, attended by Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Secretary of Civil Aviation, Additional Chief Secretary of Civil Aviation, Director General of DGCA, Director General of Civil Aviation Security, Director General of CISF, Airport Authority of India officials, and the CEO and Nodal Officer of Noida International Airport Limited. Senior officials from district administration, police, and the construction agency were also present.

A detailed presentation outlined the project’s current status, future action plans, and preparations for the upcoming inauguration ceremony.

Aerodrome License Pending: CM Directs Swift Action

In a significant observation, the Chief Minister noted that the airport has yet to receive its aerodrome license—a critical requirement for commencing operations. He issued immediate directives to coordinate with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security and CISF to meet all security standards and expedite the clearance process.

The airport is an ambitious project for the state, so any security or other work that remains should be completed with speed and the highest quality,” CM Yogi stated, underscoring the urgency of meeting timelines without compromising standards.

Phased Development: 12 Million to 300 Million Passengers

Initial Phase: At inauguration, the airport will operate with a single runway and handle approximately 12 million passengers per year, providing immediate relief to the congested Delhi-NCR aviation network.

Ultimate Capacity: Upon full development, the Jewar facility will feature five runways spread across 11,750 acres, with the capacity to serve 30 crore (300 million) passengers annually—making it one of the largest airports globally.

The massive scale of the project positions it as a game-changer for aviation infrastructure in North India, potentially surpassing major international hubs in passenger handling capacity.

‘New Symbol of UP’s Development’

Describing the project as “a new symbol of Uttar Pradesh’s development and global investment,” CM Yogi emphasized that quality, timeliness, and inter-departmental coordination must remain paramount. He directed all concerned agencies to ensure seamless preparations for the inauguration ceremony.

The Chief Minister’s focus on the airport reflects the state government’s commitment to transforming Uttar Pradesh into a major economic powerhouse. The project is expected to catalyse industrial growth, create thousands of jobs, and significantly enhance the state’s appeal to international investors.

Dignitaries Present

The inspection was attended by Public Works Department Minister Brijesh Singh, Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Nagar, Additional Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar, Divisional Commissioner of Meerut Division Bhanu Chandra Goswami, Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh, and District Magistrate Medha Rupam, alongside senior government, administrative, and police officials.

Strategic Impact

Located in Jewar, approximately 75 kilometres from Delhi, the Noida International Airport is strategically positioned to serve the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh. The facility is expected to ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while establishing a new aviation corridor for international and domestic travel.

Aviation experts believe the airport could emerge as a preferred hub for cargo operations and passenger airlines, given its modern infrastructure and connectivity to major industrial corridors including the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.

With security clearances now identified as the critical path item, the state administration is working round-the-clock to meet all regulatory requirements and ensure the project stays on track for its planned inauguration.
