JALANDHAR/LUDHIANA – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensified its ongoing money-laundering investigation on Tuesday, launching simultaneous raids across multiple locations in Punjab and neighbouring states. The operation, cantered on the high-profile case involving Hamptons Realty Private Limited—an entity linked to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjeev Arora—has sent shockwaves through the regional business community.

Focus on Jalandhar and Beyond
ED teams conducted searches at approximately six locations across Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Delhi, Noida, and Bareilly. In a significant development in Jalandhar, investigators arrived at the residence of a prominent Chartered Accountant (CA) located in the New Jawahar Nagar area.
Sources familiar with the investigation confirmed that the CA is believed to have close professional ties to senior leaders within Punjab’s ruling party. Upon entering the premises, officials began a comprehensive review of financial records and property documents, seeking to establish links to the broader money-laundering probe.
Beyond the CA’s residence, investigative teams also visited the premises of two local leaders in Jalandhar, marking a notable expansion of the inquiry’s scope.
The Context of the Probe
The current crackdown is part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged ₹100 crore GST fraud, primarily involving mobile phone transactions. This legal pressure follows the recent arrest of Sanjeev Arora, who remains in judicial custody. As investigators scour documents for evidence of illicit financial flows, the business community in Punjab has expressed growing apprehension over the frequency and reach of these central agency operations.
Political Fallout and Assurance
The political climate in the state has reached a fever pitch, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accusing the central government of weaponizing investigative agencies to intimidate opposition-ruled states.
Addressing the anxiety among local entrepreneurs, AAP National Convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal issued a strong statement via social media. He urged the business community to remain calm and dismiss fears of systemic persecution.
“Businessmen in Punjab need not panic,” Kejriwal stated. “The Punjab government and the entire state machinery stand firmly with the business community during these challenging times.”

What Lies Ahead
As the ED continues its document-heavy search operations, all eyes are on the potential evidence the agency may recover. For Punjab’s administrative and business sectors, the coming days are critical as the agency prepares to synthesize the findings from these latest raids.
Whether these operations will yield significant new leads or further exacerbate the standoff between the state and central authorities remains the defining question for the region’s political landscape.
