AMRITSAR – In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Punjab Police, acting in coordination with central intelligence agencies, has apprehended two individuals allegedly plotting a major attack in the state. The arrests, carried out by the Amritsar Rural Police, have led to the recovery of two hand grenades, pointing to a thwarted conspiracy to destabilize regional peace.

The Operation
Following credible intelligence regarding the movement of subversive elements, a joint operation was launched by the Amritsar Rural Police and central security partners. The swift action resulted in the apprehension of two suspects who, according to preliminary investigations, were in direct contact with handlers based across the border.
The recovery of explosive ordnance—specifically, two hand grenades—has confirmed fears that the accused were preparing for a high-impact violent incident intended to disrupt law and order within Punjab.
Legal Action and Investigation
Authorities have registered an FIR (First Information Report) against the detainees at the Gharinda police station. While officials have not disclosed the specific identities of the accused due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation, police confirmed that the suspects were acting under explicit instructions from foreign-based entities.
Official Commitment to Security
Addressing the incident, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav reaffirmed the force’s ironclad resolve to neutralize threats before they can materialize.
“The Punjab Police is fully committed to dismantling terror networks, eradicating organized crime, and ensuring peace and public safety across the state,” DGP Yadav stated.

Security has been tightened across Amritsar and surrounding border districts as investigators continue to trace the broader network of the suspects and their foreign handlers. The successful interception is being viewed as a critical win for intelligence-led policing in the border state.
