LUCKNOW – A devastating fire engulfed a commercial building in the Purania locality of Aliganj on Monday, resulting in the tragic death of 15 people. The incident, which paralyzed the area with panic, has prompted an immediate, high-level response from the state government and the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Incident
The fire broke out in the afternoon, spreading rapidly through the structure. While initial local reports suggested the building housed a coaching centre and library, senior police officials later clarified the building’s actual occupancy: a pet shop operated on the ground floor, while the upper levels served as an animation and gaming software studio.
The intensity of the blaze forced several occupants to retreat to balconies or windows, with one individual sustaining critical injuries after jumping from the building in a desperate attempt to escape the smoke and flames.
Rescue and Relief Operations
Local police, fire brigade personnel, and residents worked in tandem to carry out a complex rescue operation. Firefighters battled the inferno for several hours before gaining control. Currently, cooling operations are being conducted to prevent any risk of the fire reigniting.
Victims, many aged between 20 and 24, were rushed to nearby hospitals. The medical administration remains on high alert to ensure those injured receive specialized care.
Government Response and Investigation
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken immediate cognizance of the tragedy. After cancelling his scheduled visit to Aligarh, the Chief Minister arrived in Lucknow to monitor the situation. He has mandated that the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) conduct an exhaustive investigation into the cause of the fire and the building’s safety compliance.
“The culprits will not be spared at any cost,” the Chief Minister stated, emphasizing that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

Ex-Gratia Announced
Expressing deep grief over the loss of life, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced financial support for the affected families from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF):
-
₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased.
-
₹50,000 each for those injured.
As the administration continues its probe, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and reviewing safety protocols for commercial buildings across the capital.
