KHANNA, Punjab – In a major crackdown on the fabrication of criminal complaints, the Khanna Police have officially registered a case against a senior leader of the Akali Dal Waris Punjab and his associate for allegedly staging a shooting incident to influence a high-stakes land dispute.

The investigation, led by Khanna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Darpan Ahluwalia, has unravelled what police describe as a “well-thought-out conspiracy” designed to intimidate rivals and manipulate the legal system.

The Anatomy of a Deception

The case traces back to January 24, 2026, when Jaswant Singh Cheema, a prominent leader in the Akali Dal Waris Punjab, approached the Doraha Police Station. He alleged that unknown assailants had opened fire on his Innova vehicle, claiming a direct threat to his life.

However, a subsequent, in-depth investigation involving forensic analysis and technical surveillance yielded evidence that contradicted his account entirely. According to SSP Dr. Ahluwalia, the “attack” was a carefully orchestrated drama.

“The investigation revealed that the incident was not a random act of violence, but a scheme aimed at turning a land dispute worth crores of rupees in their favour,” stated Dr. Ahluwalia during a press conference on Wednesday. “The bullet fired at Cheema’s vehicle did not come from an assailant, but from the licensed pistol of his own associate, Ladi Rathore.”

Legal Consequences

Following the discovery of the ruse, the Khanna Police moved swiftly to hold those involved accountable. A formal case has been registered against Jaswant Singh Cheema and Ladi Rathore on serious charges, including:

  • Extortion

  • Cheating

  • Filing a false police complaint

Ladi Rathore was taken into custody by police shortly after the findings were confirmed. At the time of reporting, authorities have confirmed that a manhunt is actively underway to apprehend Jaswant Singh Cheema, who remains at large.

A Warning Against Misuse of Law

The case has sparked significant public interest, highlighting the risks posed by the misuse of police machinery for political and personal leverage.

SSP Dr. Ahluwalia issued a stern warning to those who attempt to mislead investigators for personal gain. “The law is equal for all,” he emphasized. “No individual will be permitted to play with the sanctity of the legal system, regardless of their political identity or social influence. We will take strict action against anyone attempting to frame others through fabricated grievances.”

Police officials have stated that the investigation remains ongoing. As investigators continue to piece together the financial and logistical aspects of the conspiracy, they anticipate further significant revelations in the coming days.
